A beautiful, natural piece, with only a mint flaw on the metal of the king’s portrait. The surface retains its natural luster. Slight patina.
Gdańsk was one of the mints that operated throughout the entire reign of King John II Casimir, regularly minting, among other coins, orty. During this period, it minted 16 annual issues, which today constitute an interesting and highly sought-after segment of Polish numismatics.
This specimen is a variant with the last digit of the date overstruck (1657 to 1658) and the inscription on the reverse beginning with “IOH” and “GEDANENS.”
The coin comes from an outstanding contemporary collection at Zbiór.com and is illustrated on its website.
