Sigismund III Vasa, Ort 1621, Bydgoszcz – SIGI – rare
Bust of the king facing right.
A variant featuring the Sas coat of arms (of Mikołaj Daniłowicz—Grand Treasurer of the Crown) in a decorative shield, divided at the bottom by a circumferential inscription on the reverse.
The coat of arms shield is “in a cap and with epaulets.” Additional decorative elements in the upper part (cap) and on the sides of the coat of arms (epaulets)—a rarervariant.
A variant featuring the inscription with the king’s title SIGI ... LIT... PRVS MAS in the border on the obverse and … NECO SVE … in the border on the reverse—rare.
Characteristic end of the sash.
Crown above the coats of arms without clasps, hatched. The crown’s rim is decorated with crosses.
The mantling on the sides of the coats of arms takes the form of a spiral with an elongated arm ending in a cross.
Condition: 2-/2
Minor localized minting defects, but for this type, a very nicely struck and well-preserved piece. Good detail. Brilliance and plenty of mint luster. A rarer and underappreciated variant with the SIGI title... A rare coin and quite difficult to find on the collectors’ market.
