"Samlicki: Let's move on to color. It is - no matter what it depicts: people, views, or still lifes - very weak. You don't like intense colors, you avoid strong accents, both in terms of color and quality, as a result of which the face of your works, although noble, is always anemic. Makowski: What you call anemia is a refined taste. I avoid strong colors, because they scream - I prefer subdued piano. My soul suits anemic, poor children, withered flowers or discreet in color, I prefer the soft light of gray days to the violent contrasts of the sun. I broke with impressionism once and for all, I'm all about the subject, the thing, not the effect."
