Stanislaw Gorski (1887 - 1955) - this Koscian-born Greater Poland resident rested like a true Cracovian in the Rakowicki cemetery. His life and work were bound for good to Krakow and the Tatra Mountains. After graduating from the Industrial School there, he took up studies at the Academy of Fine Arts between 1909 and 1914, in the studio of Jozef Pankiewicz. He then studied with Teodor Axentowicz from 1916 to 1917. The latter exerted the greatest influence on him - which resulted in countless painting compositions in pastel technique on paper. Following the example of his master and teacher, he became a portraitist of beautiful girls - highlanders and the author of veristic portraits of highlanders, usually painted in recognizable Tatra landscapes. He accentuated the beauty and vitality of his models with colorful costumes and distinctive accessories. His works adorned many interiors probably as a fond memory of Tatra vacations. The impeccable technique and quality of these works allows us to enjoy all their qualities to this day, and time has not affected their aesthetic reception, they are still appreciated by lovers of mountains and beautiful girls.
