Otto Pippel was born in Lodz, Poland. He began his painting studies in Strasbourg and continued in Karlsruhe and Dresden. After his studies, he settled in Planegg, near Munich. In 1903-1908 he lived for a while in Lodz, where several exhibitions of his works were held. He traveled in France, Italy and Russia. He gained his greatest fame in Germany, where his landscapes were appreciated above all.
Pippel's landscapes from Germany, France and Poland are maintained in an impressionistic manner, suffused with light and color. His legacy also includes portraits, genre scenes and works that are copies of works by old masters. Pippel's paintings are in the collections of museums in Munich, Bonn, Leipzig and Mainz.
