Magdalena Szilke
(born 1983 in Warsaw)
Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where she lives and works. She received a diploma in the department of easel painting with dean's distinction in the studio of Professor Stanislaw Baj. She creates in many techniques, such as ink, watercolor, batik, tapestry, embroidery, felt,ceramics and glass mosaic. The main technique, however, remains oil painting on canvas.
Paintings created by Magdalena Szilke oscillate on the border between abstraction and representational painting. She is inspired to create such ephemeral phenomena as light, shadow, wind, depth, temperature, but also more material ones like the landscape: the texture of meadows, vegetation, clouds, water and minerals. A link to the real world is also the use of mosses and lichens incorporated into the surface of the canvas. Sometimes the boundaries between abstraction and landscape blur. These motifs are united by a strong synthesis of the subject in both composition and color range. The starting point remains color. It is color that first appears in the memory of a view or with specific emotions accompanying the artist.
She has participated in more than a dozen solo and group exhibitions. Her works are in many private collections at home and abroad.
