acrylic on canvas, 120 x 100 cm (framed: 135 x 115 cm), signed lower right 'MZ' and inscribed on the reverse: 'MZ | MARCIN | ZALEWSKI | "GENESIS" | 11.2021'
A graduate of the Antoni Kenar Art High School in Zakopane and the Sculpture Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he studied under Prof. Jan Kucz (2004). Despite his studies in sculpture, his primary artistic focus is painting. Zalewski’s paintings are characterized by intense colors and dynamic compositions based on combinations of geometric shapes, as well as images of animals and people (and very often their hybrids). In form, they resemble collages, based on unexpected combinations of elements drawn from pop culture and high art. The artist draws inspiration from both contemporary artists such as Bruno Walpoth, Willy Verginer, and Henry Moore, as well as the old masters: Fra Angelico, Giotto di Bondone, and Vermeer. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, both in Poland and abroad, gaining recognition in the art community. His works are held in private collections and museums.
