Sosnowiec 1914. 19.5x28 cm, pp. 11, softcover. Good condition (minor soiling and tears of the cover).
Booklet devoted to the history of the creation of the Eastern Legion. It was formed in Lviv in August 1914 under the auspices of the Supreme National Committee, in response to the outbreak of World War I. It consisted mainly of volunteers from the Falcon Field Squads, Bartosz Squads, Polish Rifle Squads and volunteers from Cieszyn Silesia (Silesian Legion). Despite the initial increase in the number of soldiers, the Legion's activities were hampered by pro-Russian agitation and organizational problems, which led to the disintegration of the unit in Mszana Dolna in September 1914. Some of the soldiers, under the command of Captain Jozef Haller, went on to form the Second, so-called "Iron Brigade," which later became part of the 3rd Infantry Regiment of the Polish Legions, continuing the fight for Polish independence.
