Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin (1766-1826) - Russian writer, publicist and historian. He came from a noble family with Tatar roots, thus received a typical for this sphere, home education, then educated in Moscow. He joined the Leib-Gvardian Preobrazhensky Regiment, where he lived to see his promotion to second lieutenant. Beginning in 1789, he traveled throughout Western Europe - to Königsberg (where he met Immanuel Kant), Switzerland, Great Britain and France. This travel caused him to slowly begin to withdraw from his previous beliefs (he was influenced by the revolutionary French encyclopedists, among others) to become increasingly associated with Russian conservative circles. A member of the Academy of Sciences, he was a Chevalier of the Order of Saint Vladimir third class and the Order of Saint Anne first class.
Creator of the first historical tales in Russian literature, initiator of the sentimentalism trend in Russian literature, primarily through his work Poor Liza. The period 1803-1811 was primarily the beginning of his work on the monumental History of the Russian State; in later years he managed to gain the support of the tsar's family - so much so that the project was eventually financed by Alexander I.
Condition as in the photos.
