Lot information
This pair of slender lidded vases represents the pinnacle of Thuringian interpretation of Italian Baroque and is conceived as a set of richly decorated solitary pieces intended for the most demanding period interiors. The central band of the vase body depicts playful scenes with putti in an ancient landscape in high relief, which gives the whole an extraordinary depth and dynamism, while the upper part is dominated by distinctive mascarons in the form of rams' heads, from which richly gilded and polychrome floral festoons flow. The domed lids with figural motifs of children and decorative handles are complemented by a circular foot, which is attached to the body of the vase with a steel screw and nutmore photos
