Lot description
The smaller jug comes from Deruta from the 17th century and is decorated with a typical blue-yellow decor with figural and plant motifs. Deruta was an important center of Italian majolica, and its ceramics were characterized by bright colors and detailed painting. The larger jug is probably from 18th century Naples or southern Italy. The dominant motif is the depiction of a saint standing on a crescent moon, which may refer to the traditional iconography of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception (Immaculata). The figure is set in a richly decorated frame with floral and ornamental elements, typical of Baroque Neapolitan faience. more photos
