New Warsaw Courier. Volume VI, No. 213. Tuesday, September 12, 1944.
[a propaganda newspaper published between 1939 and 1945]
Newsprint, 2 pages, size 46.8 x 31.5 cm.
A sample issue of a propaganda newspaper from the period of the Warsaw Uprising (more available in the antique bookshop’s regular selection). Pieces from the beginning of the publication’s run (1939) and its end (the Warsaw Uprising and the period up to early 1945) are rarer than issues from 1940–43.
This issue includes, among other things: [first headline] “Insurgents responsible for the fall of the capital. Sentenced to death by the Bolsheviks. The mass suffering of the population is solely in Moscow’s interest”; “The dispute between Mikołajczyk and Sosnkowski continues”; reports from the battlefronts (“The offensive between the Vistula and the Narew has been repelled. Heavy fighting near Sanok and Krosno.”)
