Biography
Antoni Kowalski is a highly regarded Polish painter, printmaker, and professor of fine arts who has been a prominent figure on the most important art scenes in Poland and abroad for many years. In 1982, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków—Katowice branch—earning a diploma with honors in the studios of Prof. Tomasz Jura and Prof. Jerzy Duda-Gracz.
His work, distinguished by its expressive style, precise technique, and artistic consistency, has been presented at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Europe, the United States, and Asia. The artist’s works are held in the collections of prestigious museums and private collections around the world.
Alongside his artistic practice, Antoni Kowalski was actively involved in teaching. From 1994 to 2000, he was a lecturer at the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw, and then, for nearly two decades, from 2003 to 2022, he served as a full professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. In 2009, he was awarded the title of professor of fine arts, recognizing his significant contribution to both the development of art and art education. As an academic, he educated successive generations of artists, combining his experience as an artist with an international body of work with a passion for teaching.
A recipient of numerous awards and state honors, including the Gold Cross of Merit and the Bronze Medal “Gloria Artis” for Distinguished Service to Culture, he remains one of the leading figures in contemporary Polish art.
