Biography
An icon of 20th century photography. He became famous for his female nudes. His heroines are strong and confident. He was recognized by the Australian edition of Vogue magazine. Since the late 1950s, he concentrated on fashion photography. In 1961 he settled in Paris, which unleashed his most creative period. At that time he realized sessions for the Paris edition of "Vogue". He worked for designers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Thierry Mugler. In 1980, he released the "Big Nudes" series, which increased his controversial fame. He photographed celebrities such as Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, Madonna, Catherine Deneuve, Elizabeth Taylor, Monica Bellucci and Luciano Pavarotti. In 1999, he published the book SUMO with Taschen. The publication played a huge role in the subsequent development of the prestigious publishing house. Since 2003, his work can be admired at the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin.
