Biography
From 1931 to 1934, he studied the natural sciences and then painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the studios of K. Tische and J. Kurzatkowski. The war interrupted his studies; he received his diploma in 1955 from the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he was already teaching at the time. During the war, he was a prisoner at the Oflag in Murnau, where, together with J. Sołtan, B.T. Urbanowicz, and A. Siemaszka, he created set designs for plays staged by the camp theater. Starting in 1956, he led the “Solids and Planes” studio at the Academy of Fine Arts, which was later renamed the “Visual Actions and Structures” studio. In the late 1960s, he created abstract oil compositions. He collaborated with M. Bogusz’s “Krzywe Koło” Gallery, participated in “Konfrontacje 1965” in Elbląg, the 1966 Symposium of Artists and Scientists in Puławy, and his works were exhibited at the “Space, Movement, Light” exhibition in 1967 in Wrocław. He became a full professor in 1972. In 2008, a year before his death, he was honored with the Jan Cybis Award.
