Alfred Scherres undoubtedly belongs to the top painters of 19th century Gdansk. True, he was educated outside of Gdansk, but most of his outstanding paintings were painted on the Motlawa River. He was the son of Carl Scherres (1833 -1923), a painter originally from Königsberg.
