MADONNA WITH A WREATH OF FLOWERS
Oil on wood.
19.5 x 15 cm.
With collection label Privé Collection E. J. Philipps verso.
In ebonized wooden frame.
A wreath of flowers depicted in detail against an indeterminate ground, including numerous mottled tulips, snowballs, daffodils and snowdrops. In the center, slightly overhanging the wreath of flowers from the inside, is Mary, handing an apple to the infant Jesus sitting on her lap. The painting is strongly reminiscent of works by Jan van Kessel the Elder (1626-1679) and Jan Bruegehl the Younger (1601-1678). (1421803) (13))
