Italian Master, 16th Century, Jesus Meets his Mother on the Way of the Cross
This painting is built on the silent dialogue between the Madonna and Christ, whose exchange of glances attracts the attention of the viewer, in how they communicate with their eyes and hands. The figure of Christ, highlighted by the red of the robe, is placed along the vertical median of the canvas and constitutes the axis around which the composition rotates. In his hands he holds the cross, nails and rope. This iconography refers to the IV station of the Via Crucis.
