During his studies, he received five small and one large silver and one small gold medal. Even then, one of his paintings was bought by the Society for the Encouragement of Artists. He graduated from the academy with the title of class painter of the first degree and a small gold medal for his landscape painting "Oaks." In 1889 he received the rank of academician, and in 1890 he was elected an actual member of the Academy of Fine Arts.
The subjects of Kryzhitsky's works are landscapes - mainly of Kyiv Governorate and the St. Petersburg area. He painted, though less frequently - Crimean landscapes (one of them is in the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw). In his work we also find views of northern and central Russia (Moscow area).
