Biography
Polish painter of the Romantic period. Between 1825 and 1830 he studied at the University of Warsaw, where he learned painting under the tutelage of, among others, Antoni Brodowski. From 1827 he was also a student and scholarship holder at the Pedagogical Institute. After the outbreak of the November Uprising, he stood in the ranks of the fighting as a second lieutenant. After the defeat of the uprising, he emigrated to Avignon. From there he went to Paris, where he continued his studies in private studios and, from 1835, at the Faculty of Painting and Lithography of the Polish Polytechnic Society. From 1839, he participated in the Paris Salons. French Romantic painting had a great influence on Kwiatkowski's work. His works are dominated by landscapes, portraits, allegorical and genre scenes. They are characterized by an emotional approach to nature and an interest in the exoticism of the East, typical of the French Romantics. In Kwiatkowski's paintings one can also see luministic attempts in the Impressionist spirit.
