Wilhelm von GEGERFELT 1844 Gothenburg - 1920 Torekov
Swedish landscape and marine painter. Son of the architect Victor. He studied painting from 1861 to 1863 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He then attended the Stockholm Academy of Art until 1867. From 1867 to 1872 he lived in Düsseldorf. He then moved to Paris, where, influenced by Alfred Wahlberg, he assimilated the style of the French intimists. Study trips took him to the coasts of France, England and Holland, as well as to Italy, Finland and Denmark. In the 1870s he was one of the painters who formed an art colony in Skagen, Denmark. In the early 1880s he stayed with Georg Pauli and Carl Skånberg (1850-1883) in Venice. In the following years he traveled there several times. From 1885 to 1886 he taught landscape painting to Eugen, the youngest son of Swedish King Oskar II.
