Witold LEONHARD

1890 Cracow - 1947 Warsaw

Painter, draughtsman, textile designer. Studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1910-12, with W. Weiss and T. Axentowicz. In 1913, he left for Dresden to study. He also traveled to France (Paris,) Italy and Spain. After World War I, he settled in Warsaw and had his studio in Jablonna. In 1919, together with Z. Pronaszka, he designed the interior and frescoes of the Ziemiańska Café in Warsaw. He designed and made polychromes of the tenements of the Old Town Square in Warsaw in 1928. His works decorated the cabins of the ship m/s Piłsudski. He collaborated with Wiadomosci Literackie, Kurier Poranny and Szpilki for which he made satirical drawings. He designed kilims for weaving studios in Zakopane. During the war he collaborated with the underground press. The subjects of his works are mainly landscapes and still lifes. He exhibited initially in Lviv and Zakopane and later in Lodz, Poznan and Warsaw. There he also had two solo exhibitions at TZSP in 1922 and 1930.
