Israel's conquest of Jerusalem during the Six-Day War in June 1967 marked a major historical turning point. After nineteen years of division, Israeli paratroopers entered the Old City on June 7, taking control of East Jerusalem (until then under Jordanian authority). This event enabled Jews to regain access to the Wailing Wall, which they had been deprived of since 1948.
