Piedmont, Barolo

Giacomo Borgogno is a historic estate, distinguished for the region, whose wines have been served and opened at many important national celebrations. Best known for its Riserva wines, as well as single vineyard labels: from Cannubi, Fossati, and being their monopole Liste.
Organic cultivation, some of it certified, fermentation in concrete vats and storing the wines in cellars for extended periods are the producer's hallmarks.
The 1988 vintage was initially judged with great enthusiasm, after which many of the wines failed to live up to high expectations. Eventually, it turned out that they had to wait a little longer to develop. Today, in general, the wines are judged to be successful, attractive, already completely developed. The Riserva from Borgogno is as beautiful as a mature Barolo can be. The fruit still resounds in the background, but the bouquet is dominated by cool mineral and autumn notes. The body is smooth, with beautifully dissolved tannins and acidity. Very much a pleasure!
