This type of sword was used for executions in the early modern period and is characterized by a broad, heavy blade with a rounded tip that was not intended for stabbing but for making a clean cut. The blade is embossed with the Latin inscription "pax et Iustitia" ("peace and justice"), which refers to the symbolism of the administration of law and justice.
