Polish saber, officer's saber, the so-called "Kosciuszko saber"

Poland, c. 18th c. - From the time of the Kosciuszko insurrection.
Steel head, drawn on both sides in wide armor; in the pledge part engraved floreses, panoplies, an oval medallion topped with flowers - with traces of gilding; on the wide back at the base an engraved, gilded sigmoidal mark resembling a butterfly with flapping wings. The bronze, cross-barrelled yoke; lenticular whiskers; the back shoulder bent downward, with a teardrop; the bail refracted at a right angle, J-shaped, flat, with profiles and a diamond-shaped scroll. Handle clad in ebony, notched in a fine checkered pattern (with a visible crack in the wood on one side). Head in bronze, oval, puckered, topped with a lump (flared end of the shank), with a short hood. Steel scabbard, with two riffles and brass bracelets; steel spur.
