The last collected edition published during the author’s lifetime, the so-called “professorial edition.” Edited by Eustachy Januszkiewicz (his initials appear on the shields on the title pages), with a preface by Aleksander Chodźka. "This edition could be called the tombstone of Mickiewicz’s poetry editions. A chill and sadness emanate from the cold, yellowing pages of these small, almost square volumes [...]. With this edition, Mickiewicz bid farewell to poetry; he offered it as a memento and a testament to the past [...]. It is therefore the definitive edition, upon which scholars rely to establish the authentic wording of the text. For this reason, it is held in high regard and esteem; it is commonly referred to as the ‘professorial edition’ […].
