Jan Ekiert was born in 1909 in Kombornia (now in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship). In September 1939, he was taken prisoner and held in POW camps. After the war, he settled in Paris, where he studied, among other places, at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. He was associated with the postwar Polish émigré community in Paris, including the “Kultura” circle. In 1961, he received the “Kultura” Award for visual arts. His works were frequently exhibited in Parisian galleries and are currently held in private and public collections in France and Poland (including the Museum of Art in Łódź and the National Museum of the Przemyśl Region in Przemyśl). He died in Paris in 1993.
