Biography
Painter, graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. She earned her diploma with honors in Professor Andrzej Tobis’s Painting Studio. While still a student, she won the Grand Prix at the 42nd “Bielska Jesień 2015” Painting Biennial at the Bielska BWA Gallery in Bielsko-Biała (2015). She was a finalist at the 9th “Rybie Oko” Young Artists’ Biennial at the Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery in Słupsk (2017). Winner of the “Talenty Trójki” award in the Visual Arts category (2017). Nominated for the “Polityka Passports” award in the Visual Arts category (2019), and received an honorable mention in the 13th Geppert Competition (2020). Czech’s painting resonates formally and thematically with the New Expression movement of the 1980s. In her works, however, pessimism and radical misanthropy prevail over the irony characteristic of New Expression. Czech’s expressive paintings represent an attempt to come to terms with her own complex relationships with other people. The artist is not afraid to reveal the truth about violence and human cruelty. When a human is the negative protagonist of her work, a defenseless animal becomes the victim of that person’s stupidity, and the artist steps in to defend the animal.
