Biography
He studied painting from 1972 to 1978 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the guidance of Professors Michał Bylina, Jacek Siennicki, and Ludwik Maciąg. He received his diploma with honors from Prof. Ludwik Maciąg’s studio in 1978. He is currently a professor in the Department of Painting at his alma mater and leads a painting studio for students in their second through fifth years. He has held over 90 solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He has participated in over 100 group exhibitions. The artist’s works are held in the collections of Polish museums as well as in private collections in Poland and abroad. The artist primarily exhibits paintings and drawings. Initially, he painted genre scenes inspired by rural life and nature. Since the 1980s, his work has focused on landscapes—primarily the Bug River—and portraiture. His paintings possess universal yet symbolic qualities, particularly the numerous portraits of the artist’s mother and the bends of the wild Bug River, painted directly from nature and ranging from realistic to abstract.
