Zbigniew PRONASZKO
1885 Debrecen - 1958 Cracow
He studied at the SSP in Kyiv and at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts under T. Axentowicz and J. Malczewski. Before World War I, he initiated exhibitions of Independents, on the model of Parisian exhibitions. In 1917, he co-founded the Polish Expressionists, later renamed the Formists group. He was a theoretician of Formism. Since 1924 in Cracow. After the war he received a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He practiced painting; nudes, portraits, genre scenes. He also practiced sculpture, stage design. He had many exhibitions in Poland and at foreign exhibitions of Polish art. He strived to create a modern national style, drawing inspiration from Polish Gothic and Baroque art and Podhale naive painting.
