Zygmunt Kaczówka (1915–1996) — After the Elk Hunt, Oil on Canvas (Realism, Hunting)

A landscape painting in horizontal format depicting a winter outdoor scene. In the foreground is a dead moose lying on a makeshift sled or wooden structure, partially covered in snow. On the right stands a draft horse in harness, with its back turned toward the viewer. In the center of the composition, three men dressed in heavy winter clothing are gathered around a campfire. One of them is bending over, adding branches to the fire, while the others stand nearby. On the left are two hunting dogs, facing the men. The background is a snow-covered forest with tall, slender trees. Smoke rises from the bonfire, gently dispersing in the cool air. The painting’s color scheme consists of subdued shades of white, gray, and brown, contrasted by the warm light of the fire. The entire work is set in a richly decorated, wide wooden frame featuring gilded floral ornaments and profiled moldings. Signed in the lower right corner: “Z. Kaczówka.”

Zygmunt Kaczówka (1915–1996)
A Polish painter active in the second half of the 20th century. The dominant themes in his work include hunting scenes (hunts, game, horses, dogs), forest and winter landscapes, and genre compositions set in rural or forest settings.
These paintings are characterized by a realistic, narrative style and traditional painting techniques, reflecting a continuation of the academic-realist aesthetic popular in 20th-century decorative painting.
The artist’s works regularly appear on the collectors’ market in Poland, most often as paintings with hunting themes.
