GERMAN PHOTO ALBUM “AUS GROSSER ZEIT” — WORLD WAR I

A German photo album intended for military photographs from World War I. The canvas cover is painted black and decorated with a silver-plated depiction of the Iron Cross, Model 1914. Visible within the cross’s field are the imperial crown, Emperor Wilhelm II’s monogram “W,” and the date “1914.”
Below is an inscription in German: “Aus grosser Zeit,” which can be translated as “From great times” or, more loosely, “From the times of a great era.” This was a popular phrase with patriotic overtones during the Great War, used, among other things, on albums intended for storing photographs of soldiers, military units, and mementos from the front.
