The painting depicts a four-horse carriage with four lurchers driven by a wagonman accompanied by a steward. The genre motif with a horse-drawn carriage in the foreground, which is quite common in Rozwadowski's work, shows outstanding painterly qualities in the case of the presented work. The work is perfectly harmonized in terms of composition and color - and at the same time intelligently and somewhat perversely constructed from distinctly contrasting elements. The darkened foreground with a multi-horse sled energetically splashing down a muddy road is realistic, dynamic and almost entirely in the range of cold colors. The fields and village in the background are a romantic landscape - a dreamy, calm, dewy sun where even the billowing clouds seem motionless suspended over the horizon.
An interesting, very artistically mature work by this author.
