Jan Czesław Moniuszko (Vilnius 1853 – Warsaw 1908) — son of the composer Stanisław — from 1871, he studied painting at the Drawing Class in Warsaw under Wojciech Gerson and Antoni Kamiński, as well as privately with Gerson and B. Dziadulewicz. In 1878, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. From 1880 onward, he lived and worked permanently in Warsaw. He painted genre scenes, historical scenes, historical-genre scenes, and religious scenes. His works are distinguished by their strong composition, vivid colors, and a keen sense of the mood and style of historical eras, with the Stanisław era being particularly close to his heart. He made his debut in 1879 at an exhibition at the Zachęta in Warsaw, drawing the critics’ attention with his painting *The First Meeting of Jadwiga and Jagiełło*. He later exhibited many times at the Zachęta, the Krywult Salon, the Unger Salon, and the Artistic Salon, where a group exhibition of his works (approximately 50 paintings) was held in 1905. He also exhibited in Kraków, Łódź, and Kyiv.
