Jerzy Lengiewicz (1931-2016) - painter and graphic artist, member of the Union of Polish Artists. Born in Sokółka, he studied as a free student at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. Since the mid-1950s, he actively co-founded the Bialystok artistic community, transplanting the latest artistic currents to the local ground: geometric abstraction, matter painting. He organized open-air workshops in Bialystok, was socially active in the Bialystok Branch, then the District of the Association of Polish Artists, which he belonged to since 1960. He cooperated, among others, with the famous Gallery "EL" in Elblag, in 1965, as part of the Biennial of Spatial Forms organized there, he made a monumental sculpture, which still adorns the park named after M. Kajka. He also exhibited many times at the Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting in Szczecin. His most famous achievements include a distinction at the International Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Monte Carlo (1966) or a group gold medal at the International Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Juvisy-sur-Orge near Paris (1969). From 1957 to 1994, he worked as the graphic editor of "Gazeta Białostocka", later "Gazeta Współczesna". He had more than 80 group and solo exhibitions to his credit.
