Rectangular board made of thin sheet metal, with rounded corners and small mounting holes in the upper corners. The graphic composition is kept in a vivid, contrasting color scheme. The upper part shows a stylized yellow clock face with blue hands and numerals, which bears the inscription "E. Wedel Warsaw". The foreground depicts a dark-colored cup of hot drink set on a red saucer; steam rises above it, suggesting the freshness and temperature of the drink. The lower part of the signboard contains the inscription in decorative, italic font: "Before work cup," and below, in large red letters: "COCA WEDLA." The background is horizontally divided into color zones: a cool, blue-green upper part and a light, cream lower part.
Sheet metal, color printing (lithography/offset), varnish.
Size: 50 x 32, 5 cm.
Condition - as in the photos.
The presented object is an interesting example of utilitarian advertising from the interwar period, when the dynamically developing consumer market in Poland was conducive to the emergence of modern forms of visual promotion. At the time, the E. Wedel plant was one of the most recognizable brands, and its products - including cocoa and chocolate - were widely advertised both in urban spaces and at points of sale.
The graphic form of the signboard reflects the influence of art déco aesthetics, evident in the simplified forms, geometrization and synthetic depiction of objects. The motif of a clock juxtaposed with a cup of drink emphasizes the rhythm of the day and the daily ritual of consumption, which was a characteristic marketing trick of the era.
The object has not only decorative value, but also documentary value - it is a testimony to the visual culture and history of advertising in Poland in the first half of the 20th century, as well as a material trace of the activities of one of the most important confectionery companies in the country.
