Biography
Polish folk sculptor. He has been sculpting since childhood, creating his first works during the German occupation by carving flutes, figurines, and birds. After graduating from elementary school, he worked at the Plastics Plant in Pustków; however, an accident and serious head injuries forced him to take disability leave. From that point on, sculpture became the artist’s primary occupation.
For most of his life, Stręk created his art locally, remaining virtually unknown to the wider public. His work was not recognized until the end of his life. The artist’s sculptures are distinguished by their austere, minimalist, and hieratic form. The multicolored polychromy and the characteristic, tightly arranged figures give his works a monumental, almost architectural character, distinguishing them from folk sculpture in the traditional sense.
