FERDINAND ZACH (AUSTRIAN, 1868-1939), Twilight Over the Lake

A sophisticated and evocative atmospheric landscape by Ferdinand Zach, executed in oil on plywood . The work is a masterclass in tonal painting, dominated by a vast, shimmering expanse of water that captures the golden and amber hues of a receding sunset. Unlike his larger canvas works, this piece on panel allows for a smoother, more reflective surface, perfectly suited to depicting the mirror-like quality of a still lake at dusk.
On the left bank, a dark, silhouetted group of trees and coastal vegetation anchors the composition, providing a stark contrast to the luminous water and sky. The right side of the painting transitions into deep, cool tones of indigo and violet, where the sky's evening shadows are reflected in the lake's depths. Oil on plywood, 33.5 x 39.5 cm. Signed lower right.
