Ignacy Pinkas (Jaslo 1888 - Cracow 1935) - painter and graphic artist, soldier of the Polish Legions; from 1908 studied as a free student at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts under Stanisław Dębicki and Jacek Malczewski. In 1911 he was in Paris. From 1912 he was a member of the Riflemen's Association. In August 1914 he set out from Cracow with the Cadre Company. He served in the 1st Artillery Regiment of the 1st Brigade of the Legions, and later in the Polish Positive Corps. In 1918 he was interned in a camp in Witkowice. During this time he painted and drew numerous portraits of legionaries. In 1919, as a draftsman and war painter, he was in Vilnius with General L. Żeligowski's division; at that time he painted a series of views of Vilnius and landscapes of its environs. In 1920 he was in Cracow, from where he went on plein-air trips many times - either to the coast or to Prague, Vilna, Warsaw, Jaslo, Bystra. He also traveled to France. He belonged to the Artists Section of the Legionaries' Union in Cracow. He painted portraits, landscapes, city views, genre scenes and still lifes. He was involved in printmaking; he designed, among other things, two portfolios of autolithographs - Vilnius (1929) and Cracow (n.d.). Beginning in 1916 he exhibited a lot - in Krakow, Warsaw, Lviv, Lodz, Torun, Bydgoszcz, Vilna, Sosnowiec. In 1926 he had a solo exhibition in Prague. A large retrospective exhibition of the artist's works was held in 1974 at the Cracow Society of Friends of Fine Arts.
