Edition 1. Monumental work on the history of Poland of the XVI-XVIII centuries written by Wladyslaw Konopczynski (1880-1952), historian, professor at the Jagiellonian University, MP, founder and editor of the "Polish Biographical Dictionary".
A classic of Polish historiographical thought, which is probably most often found in the footnotes and bibliographies of contemporary works devoted to the history of the Republic of XVI-XVIII. Although in some areas the state of our knowledge of the past is now more extensive than in Konopczyński's time, the book is still an indispensable synthesis of the Old Polish era and is regarded as one of the best studies of modern Polish history.
Volume one covers events from the election of Sigismund I the Old to the death of Wladyslaw IV Vasa, volume two from the election of Jan Kazimierz Vasa to the final partition of Poland.
