Konwicki's publishing debut, a production novel written on the basis of his own experiences working in Nowa Huta in 1949-1950. The novel was pioneering and became a model for other writers of the Socialist Realist period: Marian Brandys, Scibor-Rylski or Leopold Lewin. The first book in the series: In the Forge of the Six-Year Plan.
