Tadeusz Ulewicz was born in 1917 in Radom and died in 2012 in Kraków. He was a literary historian and professor of Old Polish literature at Jagiellonian University. One of the foremost experts on the works of Jan Kochanowski, Old Polish printing, and Polish-Italian cultural ties. Author of over 500 scholarly dissertations.
He received honorary doctorates from the universities of Milan and Łódź. He was a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Warsaw Scientific Society.
For his work, he was awarded the Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2000), the Order of Grande Ufficiale dell’Ordine Stella della Solidarietà Italiana, the Medal of the National Education Commission, and the Gold Medal “Meritorious to Culture – Gloria Artis.”
He held the title of Grand Orator—the Venerable Golden-Tongued—in the Revived Knightly Order of Bibliophiles in Kraków.
