Michał Jerzy Poniatowski. Announcement of the Prince Coadjutor’s Assumption of the Governance of the Diocese of Kraków. No place [1782]. No title page, folio, unbound.
E.XXV, 9. Decree announcing the assumption of office by Michał Jerzy Poniatowski (1736–1794), Bishop of Płock, later the last Primate of the First Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the youngest brother of King Stanisław August, of the Diocese of Kraków as its coadjutor. In 1782, the king, together with the Permanent Council, decided to remove Bishop Kajetan Sołtyk from office, due to his progressive mental illness (referred to at the time as “madness”) and the resulting acute conflict with the Kraków Cathedral Chapter. The text contains extensive information on the organization of the diocese following the First Partition. Creases, tears in the pages, some soiling; in good condition.
