Tadeusz Ulewicz was born in 1917 in Radom and died in 2012 in Kraków. He was a literary historian and professor of Old Polish literature at Jagiellonian University. One of the foremost experts on the works of Jan Kochanowski, Old Polish printing, and Polish-Italian cultural ties. Author of over 500 scholarly dissertations.
He received honorary doctorates from the universities of Milan and Łódź. He was a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Warsaw Scientific Society.
For his work, he was awarded the Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2000), the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity (Grande Ufficiale), the Medal of the National Education Commission, and the Gold Medal “Meritorious to Culture – Gloria Artis.”
He held the title of Grand Orator—the Venerable Golden-Tongued—in the Revived Knightly Order of Bibliophiles in Kraków.

Tadeusz Ulewicz (1917–2012) was a literary historian and for many years held the Chair of Early Polish Literature at Jagiellonian University in Kraków. An eminent authority on the poet Jan Kochanowski and his work, early Polish printing, and Polish–Italian cultural relations, Tadeusz Ulewicz published over 500 books and articles on these subjects. He was a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and several other Polish and foreign learned societies. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Università Cattolica di Sacro Cuore in Milan (1981) and by the University of Łódź (1998). The numerous Polish and Italian honors bestowed upon him included the Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta; the Italian distinction of Grande Ufficiale (1st Class) of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity, awarded by the President of the Republic of Italy (2003); and the Gloria Artis Gold Medal for his contribution to Polish culture (2006).
