Tarasewicz asserts that his paintings always relate to reality in some way. When juxtaposed with a stark, minimalist, painfully abstract light installation, this creates an interesting tension—very little is actually shown. The work on display does not depict anything recognizable, yet it retains the essence of things we know well. It opens the door to individual interpretation—which emotional chord it strikes depends solely on the viewer.
Lines and stripes are a frequent motif in Tarasewicz’s paintings and installations, and they are also present in this work. Composed of rectangles made of Plexiglas and backlit with primary colors, it dispenses with what is most recognizable in the artist’s painting: the trace of the hand. A certain human irregularity is removed, and its place is taken by synthetic materials—acrylic and LEDs—associated with the urban landscape, with that which demands our attention.
The presented “Installation” was featured in the exhibition “Brilliantly Illuminated” at Warsaw’s Cliché Gallery in 2025. The curator, Karolina Kliszewska, presented the collected works as “carriers of energy,” capable of connecting the viewer with intuition and inner wisdom. Kliszewska also interpreted them as symbolizing “understanding and a possible connection with the universe—with the physical and the non-physical—bringing enlightenment” (Kliszewska, K., curatorial text for the exhibition *Jaśnie Oświecone*, Cliché Gallery, Warsaw 2025). In this context, Tarasewicz’s illuminated rectangles become more than just a source of light in the literal sense. They are an invitation to introspection: to seek, within a cool, synthetic material, something that need not be cold at all.
