The form, subject to strict constraints, shifts the focus of the works toward expression rather than specific representations. The deliberate omission of a background makes the “tangled” wire the central element of the works, from which the outlines of human figures emerge, depicted in an incomplete manner. Isolating the figures and cutting them off from their surroundings allows the viewer to focus on the gestures and behaviors they represent. Austerity and the elimination of details serve to ensure that the final effect is the result of the form’s limitations. Simplification broadens the scope for interpretation, while reduction enhances the power of expression.
