[Lviv – pharmacies] – Two containers from the pharmacies of S. Stenzl and J. Pipes. Interwar period.
Porcelit; two containers, 5 cm and 4.5 cm high, with diameters of 3 cm and 3.5 cm
Two small containers for products from Lviv pharmacies: 1. “Dr. Stenzel’s Benignina. St. Mary’s Pharmacy in Lviv” and a trademark (a woman’s head). St. Mary’s Pharmacy was established in 1914 on the ground floor of Lviv’s first “skyscraper”—the Sprecher Building. From 1919 onward, it was run by the renowned pharmacist Dr. Stefan Stenzel, who developed the formula for “Benignina” face cream, a bestseller of the Second Polish Republic; 2. “Pharmacy Under the Hungarian Crown. J. Piepes in Lviv.”The pharmacy was located on what was then Bernardyński Square, next to the church where the relics of St. Stephen, King of Hungary, were kept (hence the name). In 1795, Aleksander Longchamps de Berier, the owner of the townhouse, received a license to operate a pharmacy. From 1871 onward, the pharmacy belonged to Jakub Piepes-Poratyński, and later to his son Jan. It was renowned for its exceptionally lavish interior, which has been preserved to this day. A crack in one of the larger glasses and some soiling; otherwise, it is in good condition.
