The artist was a painter and printmaker. In a later period he added "Osterhold" to his name. He graduated from the school of fine arts in Munich and studied at the academy in Stuttgart and Dresden.
He also trained in Paris and in 1911 made a great journey through Polish lands as far as Siberia. He was appointed professor at the school of fine arts in Charlottenburg near Berlin. His two paintings were exhibited in Munich in 1940 at the Great German Art Exhibition. He appears on the "List of those endowed with God's grace" created in 1944 by Goebbels and Hitler containing persons from the worlds of art, music and film not subject to conscription. Graphic not noted since the beginning of the 21st century at foreign auctions.
