The Côte d'Azur and Nice (also known as the French Riviera) are located on the Mediterranean coast in southern France. The warm climate and vibrant colors of Nice and the Côte d'Azur attracted many famous artists in the first half of the 20th century, including Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Picasso moved to Provence in southern France late in his life, where he spent the happiest and most productive years of his life. Picasso left a strong mark on the south of France, both culturally and emotionally.
